Picrasma quassiodes (D. Don) Benn. is a widely used herbal medicine for treatment of gastroenteritis, eczema, hypertension and other diseases. Our study showed that the extract from Picrasma quassiodes (D. Don) Benn. had an antihypertensive effect on spontaneously hypertensive rats, the mechanism included reducing activity of superoxide dismutase, increasing the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), which regulated nitric oxide (NO) and relaxed blood vessels. 329
