The influence of demersal trawl fishing gears on the resuspension of dinoflagellate cysts

► We quantify dinoflagellate cysts resuspended in sediment disrupted by fishing gears. ► Gear components with lower hydrodynamic drag resuspend larger cyst concentrations. ► Higher cyst concentrations were observed in muddier sediments. ► Cyst concentrations decline with increasing sediment particle size. ► Wakes with smaller shear stresses mobilise fewer larger sand particles.
