Occurrence and distribution of organochlorine residues in surface sediments of the Candarli Gulf (Eastern Aegean)

► Organochlorine residues were measured in sediment from the Candarli Gulf. ► DDTs in sediments were derived from the aged, weathered and recent inputs. ► DDTs and PCBs would be more concerned for the ecotoxicological risk in the Gulf. ► The sediments at Candarli Gulf could potentially cause acute biological impairment. ► Highest concentrations of PCBs were found near the petrochemical industry.
