Comparative efficiency of macroalgal extracts and booster biocides as antifouling agents to control growth of three diatom species

► Microalgal irreversible growth inhibition test compared compounds effectiveness. ► Growth, biomass and Chl a content of diatoms inhibited by the tested compounds. ► EC50 of biocides in increasing order was Diuron > Tolylfluanid > Copper thiocyanate. ► Most efficient was ethanol fraction of S. muticum and C. botryocarpum extracts. ► F. pinnata was the most inhibited species by all the tested compounds.
