Vitellogenin and Lipovitellin from the prawn Macrobrachium borellii as hydrocarbon pollution biomarker

► An ELISA test was developed to evaluate vitellogenin and lipovitellin on prawn. ► Prawn vitellogenin and lipovitellin levels correlate with ovarian maturation. ► Exposure to hydrocarbon pollution increase vitellogenin level in mature females. ► VTG levels in M. borellii are upregulated and highly sensitive to WSF exposure. ► This crustacean assay is a potential biomarker for freshwater hydrocarbon pollution.
