Survival and movements of Magellanic penguins rehabilitated from oil fouling along the coast of South America, 2000-2010

► Magellanic penguins (MP) are vulnerable to oil spills but can be rehabilitated. ► From 2000 to 2010, six institutions rehabilitated, banded and released 2183 MP. ► Until December 2011, a total 41 rehabilitated MP were resighted post-release. ► Rehabilitated MP can survive for extended periods and return to nesting colonies. ► MP can travel thousands of km when released away from their breeding colonies.
