The relationship between the concentrations and distribution of organic pollutants and black carbon content in benthic sediments in the Gulf of Gdańsk, Baltic Sea

► The highest concentrations of ∑PAHs (2200 ng/g d.w.) and ∑PCBs (11.3 ng/g d.w.) were determined in the Port of Gdansk sediments. ► Harbour sediments were characterized by a low content of organic matter (<5%). ► Despite this fraction was well saturated with PAHs and PCBs. ► Probably such strong sorption is due to very high share of black carbon (up to 40%) in total carbon.
