Evidence for early Mesoproterozoic (ca. 1590Â Ma) ultrahigh-temperature metamorphism in southern Australia

► In this study we determine the P-T conditions of granulite formation in southern Australia indicating UHT conditions for Coober Pedy Ridge. ► The tectonic setting of UHT metamorphism in southern Australia is potentially a back-arc basin. ► Australia records a distinct phase in the evolution of the Columbia supercontinent at ca. 1590 Ma.
