Effects of a major typhoon on sediment accumulation in Fangliao Submarine Canyon, SW Taiwan

► Typhoon Morakot generated major floods of small, mountainous rivers in SW Taiwan. ► ~ 8 Mt of sediment accumulated in a 3-12 cm thick layer in Fangliao Submarine Canyon. ► Sediment characteristics suggest the material arrived via gravity flow. ► Geochemical properties suggest a recent, terrestrial origin for the sediment. ► 7Be is not an effective signature of recent terrigenous input in this setting.
