The Cenozoic tectonostratigraphic evolution of the Barracuda Ridge and Tiburon Rise, at the western end of the North America-South America plate boundary zone

► A stratigraphic study in the Barracuda and Tiburon ridges area is presented for the first time. ► Terrigenous turbidites were present since Paleogene north of the Barracuda Ridge. ► This is the first time that very thick MTD's (up to 800 m) and widespread (20000 km2) have been reported. ► During the Middle-Late Miocene and then during the Pleistocene, the Tiburon Rise and Barracuda Ridge, respectively, were further uplifted. ► There was a general northward migration of the zone of deformation during the Neogene and Quaternary.
