Isolation of the intra-crystalline proteins and kinetic studies in Struthio camelus (ostrich) eggshell for amino acid geochronology

► Oxidative pre-treatment of OES for 72 h isolates a protected fraction of protein. ► The intra-crystalline proteins approximates a closed system at all pHs studied. ► Racemization and hydrolysis of multiple amino acids show predictable diagenetic patterns. ► Different mathematical approaches to derive kinetic parameters of hydrolysis and racemization. ► Relative rates of racemization and hydrolysis may not be consistent at increased temperatures.
