Alkylation of thiophenic compounds over heteropoly acid H3PW12O40 supported on MgF2

- H3PW12O40 supported on MgF2 are active catalysts for the benzothiophene alkylation.
- The alkylation rate depends on the HPW loading, the best being 30 wt%.
- Benzothiophene more reactive than thiophene through alkylation.
- The deactivation of catalysts is due to a strong adsorption of alkylated products.
