Physical and chemical characteristics of the nearshore zone of Lake Ontario

► We studied the nearshore zone of Lake Ontario. ► Nearshore zone phosphorus exceeded the 10 μg P/L IJC goal for Lake Ontario. ► Elevated phosphorus levels were observed at least 4 km from the shoreline. ► A thin band of water exists along the southern coast with a unique water chemistry.
