Relationships between a new slope morphometric index and calanchi erosion in northern Sicily, Italy

► Slope morphometry were compared with badlands drainage network on a statistical basis. ► A new morphometric index identifies the initial geometry of pre-badlands slope. ► Network organisation and eroded volume are proportional to the new index. ► The new index could be used for predictive purposes and other slope processes.
