Effects of lithium on oxidative stress and behavioral alterations induced by lisdexamfetamine dimesylate: Relevance as an animal model of mania

► Bipolar mania is associated with an increase in dopaminergic neurotransmission. ► Lisdexamfetamine dimesylate is a novel stimulant which enhances dopaminergic tone. ► Chronic lisdexamfetamine treatment induced hyperlocomotion in rats. ► Lisdexamfetamine treatment increased oxidative stress in areas of the rat brain. ► Lithium prevented and reversed lisdexamphetamine-induced hyperlocomotion.
