Changes in trace metals in Thalassia testudinum after hurricane impacts

► Prior to and following hurricanes Wilma and Emily trace metals were determined in seagrass. ► Contaminated Nichupte Lagoon contained high Pb prior to hurricanes and background levels following hurricanes. ► Pre hurricane biota sediment accumulation factors (BSAF) were all higher in leaf than rhizomes. ► Both Fe and Zn increased following hurricanes. ► Hurricanes may be beneficial to seagrass ecosystem if not physically disturbed.
