Distribution and sources of organochlorinated contaminants in sediments from Izmir Bay (Eastern Aegean Sea)

► The distributions of OCPs and PCBs residues in surface sediments were observed. ► Possible sources and risk assessment of OCPs and PCBs were identified in Izmir Bay. ► High concentrations of DDT in sediment were found in Gediz River estuary. ► All organochlorinated compounds are below the ERM and PEL values. ► Gediz River estuary and inner bay could be potential cause acute biological impairment.
