⺠Growth hormone (hGH) suppresses FAT/CD36 mRNA levels in insulin secreting β-cells and rat islets. ⺠Inhibition of FAT/CD36 using siRNAs protects against palmitate-induced apoptosis. ⺠Accordingly, growth hormone decreases fatty acid uptake and apoptosis and improves glucose-induced insulin secretion. ⺠Growth hormone can protect β-cells against fatty acid-induced damages via down-regulation of FAT/CD36.
