Speciation of particulate matter and hydrocarbon emissions from biodiesel combustion and its reduction by aftertreatment

► TGA analysis revealed soot from RME combustion to be more reactive in oxidation. ► RME combustion produces an increased proportion of nano-particulates than diesel fuel. ► The DPF trapping efficiency is comparable for both RME and diesel fuels. ► RME combustion produces reduced amounts of HC that are considered as carcinogens.
